One of the most important questions that comes to every patients mind is “What will be cost of treatment in India?” In this article we’ll discuss what cost of treatment actually means and how you should decipher the true cost of treatment.
There are four costs associated with any treatment. These are
- Diagnostic Cost (clinical evaluation)
- Surgery Cost
- Doctors’ Fees
- Implant Cost (if required)
When you quoted the total cost of treatment in India it will usually include only Surgery, Doctor and Implant cost. Diagnostic fees (Clincial Evaluation) is usually not included in the treatment package. This is because diagnostic cost varies from patient to patient. Some patients might require a higher number of medical tests compared to other patients depending upon their medical condition. Secondly, medical tests which are done may not be directly be related to the treatment sought. Therefore, medical treatment packages usually do not include the diagnostic component. Patients should set aside a budget of $200 USD to $800 USD for diagnostics.
Another point which patients need to consider is that surgeries which require an implant will have their cost quoted differently. These surgery packages have a varied price. The package price will include surgery cost and implant cost separately. The implant cost can vary depending upon your preference for an implant of a particular make or type. E.g if you went for an FDA approved implant the cost will be typically higher than if you went for an Indian implant. Depending upon your budget and other requirements you can opt for a particular implant and save on cost.
The variable cost of the implant depends upon the type of implant used. Patients have the choice of selecting a particular make and model of implant. The cost of the implant also varies depending upon the country of manufacture of the implant. Lastly, FDA approved implants typically cost more than Indian make implants. However, this does not in any way mean that Indian Implants are of inferior quality. It is best to consult your doctor before deciding on any particular implant.
The second factor which determines the cost of surgery is the technology used for surgery. There can be multiple methods of performing a surgery. We can define them as two types
- Invasive Surgery
- Minimally Invasive Surgery (Robotic Surgery)
Invasive surgeries are typically cheaper than minimally invasive surgeries which involve use of robotic surgical methods which provide high level of precision and faster recovery time. The cost of minimally invasive surgery in India will be more than $1000 to $3000 than a typical invasive surgery.
